I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes
This year marks 12 years since my Type 1 diabetes diagnosis, and for the first time, I’m joining the Breakthrough T1D Walk this March.
I was 11 years old when I was diagnosed, with no real idea how much life was about to change. Type 1 is a largely hidden condition and it’s not something I usually talk about — you just get on with it. The constant site changes, managing highs and lows, still going to work, trying to exercise and eat well, and doing everything “right”… even when blood sugars don’t cooperate anyway. It’s a 24/7 job, with hundreds of extra decisions every day, and no two days are ever the same.
I've officially had Type 1 longer than I haven't. Now, I honestly can’t imagine life without bolusing for food or having a pump or CGM attached to me.
I’m walking to support research that helps make living with Type 1 easier and moves us closer to better treatments and, one day, maybe even a cure. I’ve set myself a fundraising goal of $500, and I’d be grateful for any support, big or small.
