General information
I thought One Walk was run by JDRF?
That’s right! JDRF changed our name to Breakthrough T1D in March 2025, and before that, we were known as JDRF. This is our FIRST Breakthrough T1D One Walk and we are so excited. Learn more about our name change.
Does it cost anything to join Breakthrough T1D's One Walk?
There is no fee to join Breakthrough T1D's One Walk, but we do ask all walkers to fundraise or make a donation. We encourage all walkers to contribute in some way – so we have more to celebrate! The more money we raise, the more we can contribute towards T1D research.
There isn't a One Walk near me – what can I do?
You can submit an enquiry to host a One Walk. Alternatively, you, your friends and family can take on the virtual One Walk Step Challenge – read more about how it works.
Do others attending the One Walk with me have to register?
Registration isn’t required, but it helps us get a better idea of who’s attending so we can give you the best experience possible! It’s also free – and we encourage you to create a team with your attending friends and family to support your special some1.
I don't want to walk but I'd still love to support Breakthrough T1D. What can I do?
We recommend visiting our Blue Army website, which has a variety of other support options, from hosting an event to challenging yourself by running a marathon, hosting a Go Blue Day, jumping out of a plane, and more! Whatever you choose, we encourage you to celebrate your fundraising success by coming to your One Walk.
Alternatively, you can make a one-off donation.
Event day logistics
What should I bring to the event?
Bring yourself, your friends and family, your t-shirt (whether it's a Breakthrough T1D t-shirt or one you've designed yourself), and a great attitude!
Also consider bringing a picnic blanket, hat and sunscreen, and a packed lunch if you have specific dietary requirements (though we will try to cater for as many of these as possible, it’s not guaranteed). Plus, of course, any required hypo snacks and T1D-related equipment.
Are pets allowed at the event?
Please refer to your chosen One Walk location's landing page for more details.
Is there parking available at the event?
Please refer to your chosen One Walk location's landing page for more details.
Is the event accessible for people with disabilities?
While accessibility is a priority for Breakthrough T1D, there may be rare occasions where venues can’t accommodate wheelchairs or prams. Please refer to your chosen One Walk location's landing page for more details.
Fundraising
How can I fundraise?
There are so many different ways to fundraise! Most people start by sharing their personal page on social media or via email – but don’t forget to personalise your page first!
You can also try more creative methods, and we have some fun ideas, resources, and tips for our fundraisers. Once you sign up for One Walk, you'll also receive emails from your local fundraising team member with extra tips.Where does the fundraising money go?
Can I continue fundraising after the event?
Absolutely! You can continue fundraising until 30 June 2026.
How do I send in offline donations (e.g., cash, cheques)?
You can deposit any cash proceeds from your fundraising activities yourself by making a self-donation on your fundraising page. You can add where the donation came from in the message section.
Otherwise, please reach out to your local fundraising team member via the details on the contact us page or email walksupport@BreakthroughT1D.org.au to discuss the best option for you.
Rewards and incentives
What are the fundraising incentives, and how do I claim them?
You can achieve incentives after raising $50 (lanyard with pledge sign), $100 (drink bottle with sticker sheet), and $250 (canvas tote bag).
The items will be available for pick up at your chosen local event. For those doing the virtual challenge, the items will be posted at the conclusion of the campaign in April 2026.
I didn’t attend the fundraising event I registered for. Can you post my fundraising incentives to me?
Unfortunately, we’re unable to post fundraising incentives to participants who didn’t attend their event. This helps ensure the funds raised go directly toward supporting T1D research, advocacy and community support.
Merchandise
Where and how can I order t-shirts or other Breakthrough T1D merchandise?
If you've raised $50, you'll automatically get this year's FREE One Walk lanyard and pledge sign, and after raising $100 you’ll also receive a drink bottle with sticker sheet. When you raise $250 you’ll receive the lanyard, pledge sign, drink bottle, sticker sheet AND a canvas tote bag!
If you'd like to order other Breakthrough T1D merchandise items, such as a t-shirt or cap, you can do so at registration or in our shop.
Breakthrough T1D strives to provide high-quality items from suppliers that adhere to responsible sourcing. Read more about our supplier.
What are the sizes for T-Shirts?
See our adult size chart.
See our toddler size and kids size charts.
If you accidentally selected the wrong size while registering or purchasing your item, please email walksupport@BreakthroughT1D.org.au to request a change.
Can I choose the badges I receive?
If you’ve purchased a Breakthrough T1D cap or pack of badges online, our distribution team will select 4 badges at random to include in your package.
Alternatively, you can purchase and choose your own badges at your local One Walk event.
Virtual challenge
How do I log my steps for the virtual One Walk Step Challenge in March?
After you register, go to My Fitness Activity on your fundraising dashboard to connect your preferred fitness app, including Fitbit, Strava, MapMyFitness and Garmin. You can also manually add any activity you have completed.
Important: If you logged your activity via an app, it will take up to 2 days for your activity to appear on your page.

Technical support
What do I do if I encounter technical issues with my fundraising page or login?
Please reach out to walksupport@BreakthroughT1D.org.au for support.
How do I reset my password?
Please head to Settings > My Account and select ‘Reset password’. Start here and log in, and you should be at the right spot!
Facebook fundraisers
What is a Facebook Fundraiser?
A Facebook fundraiser allows you to receive donations directly through Facebook. This means friends and family don’t have to leave the Facebook platform to donate to your cause. The donation amount received through Facebook will be counted and shown on your One Walk fundraising page.
How do I set up a Facebook Fundraiser for One Walk?
Login to your One Walk fundraising account (click ‘Login’ on the top right corner of the page).
On your dashboard, click the “Create my Facebook Fundraiser” button.
Follow the prompts from Facebook to finish setting up your fundraiser.
Once your fundraiser is set up, you can customise the image and description, then start collecting donations!
How do I locate and track the progress of my Facebook Fundraiser?
Will I be able to see who contributed to my Facebook Fundraiser on my One Walk Fundraising Page?
How do I make the most out of my Facebook Fundraiser?
Here are some tips on using the Facebook Fundraiser effectively:
- Personalise your description on the fundraiser to show people why you care about Breakthrough T1D and T1D research. Personal stories and experiences are a powerful way to rally support and donations.
- Include an image of yourself or the special some1 you’re walking for.
- Provide status updates on the progress of your fundraiser to remind people to donate and keep the momentum going.
Volunteering opportunities
Will there be opportunities to volunteer?
Absolutely! There are many opportunities to volunteer both at the events and in Breakthrough T1D offices in the lead-up to March 2026. Get more information and sign up to volunteer.
Teams
How can I create or join a Breakthrough T1D One Walk team?
In the third step of the registration process, you can choose to create or join a team. You can either skip over this question, create your own team, or find and join an existing team.
If you'd like to join a team that already exists, the easiest way to go about it is to ask a team member to send you an invitation email. They can find it on the ‘Get Support’ page on their fundraising dashboard.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of people per team?
Teams can be any size! From 2 to 200 people, it's entirely up to you. The bigger the team, the more fun you'll have walking and fundraising together.
Can I design my own personalised team t-shirts?
Absolutely! Designing your own personalised team t-shirts to wear on the day of your One Walk is encouraged. Get creative and show your team's spirit!
