We're walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Sydney!

Our family’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes began in September 2025 suddenly and completely unexpectedly with Antonino. One minute he was our happy little boy, and the next our lives changed forever with a diagnosis we never saw coming.

What started as concern over him becoming increasingly unwell quickly turned into a life-changing reality that no parent is ever prepared for. There were no warning signs we recognised at the time, no family preparation, and no way to truly understand how much this condition would impact every part of daily life until we were living it ourselves.

Since then, our world has changed completely.

Type 1 Diabetes is not caused by diet or lifestyle. It is an autoimmune condition that cannot be prevented and currently has no cure. Every single day involves constant blood sugar monitoring, insulin injections, carb counting, sleepless nights, hospital visits, and the fear of dangerous highs and lows.

Antonino has already faced so much in his young life, including ongoing medical challenges, and despite everything, he continues to show incredible strength and resilience every single day. Watching your child go through this is heartbreaking, especially knowing there is no break from Type 1 Diabetes — not for a single minute.

We are fundraising for Breakthrough T1D because we want a future where children like Antonino can live without the burden of this disease. A future with better treatments, better technology, greater support for families, and ultimately, a cure.

While donations are deeply appreciated, we don’t just want financial support. Even helping spread awareness, sharing Antonino’s story, sharing fundraising ideas, or simply educating others about Type 1 Diabetes means so much to our family. Raising awareness is just as important, because so many families, like ours, never see this diagnosis coming.
