I'm doing a stupid big walk to raise money for T1D research for the last time
On March 20, I’ll set off from Devonport and walk south to Cockle Creek — around 440km over about 20 days. If all goes to plan, I’ll finish in time to roll straight into the Breakthrough T1D Walk in Hobart on April 11.
This walk feels like a natural full stop. Over the past 15 years I’ve taken on around 15 different fundraising walks, including walking the entire northern coastline of Tasmania in stages and completing a number of north–south sections. This final walk ties those threads together — one continuous journey from north to south.
I’ve been incredibly lucky with the support I’ve had along the way. Family, friends, and many others have backed these walks year after year, helping raise around $50,000 for diabetes research. That support has carried me further than my legs ever could on their own.
This walk is about bringing everything together — the miles already walked, the people who’ve supported me, and the cause that’s been behind it all. It feels like the right way to close out something that’s been a big part of my life for a long time.
