I'm walking for a world without type one diabetes

Me as a Type 1 Diabetic

15 years ago my life changed when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Changed for the better, not the worse!!

I grew up with my Nanna being Type 1 Diabetic too so the diagnosis didn't scare me. I had seen her manage it, inject daily, watch food intake etc, so it was just going to become my new normal like it was for her.

After the diabetes diagnosis came the other Auto Immune disease diagnosis's of both Coeliac Disease and Fructose Malabsorption.

This meant that I had to change my lifestyle completely.

I inject daily - I am not on a pump. Some days it can be up to 10 injections a day. It changes depending on what I eat and drink if I exercise, what the weather is like, what my stress levels are like... It is a game I play everyday!

I am a proud diabetic! I control my diabetes as best as I can. I am known to over medicate on the odd occasion though as I am concerned about my levels being too high! Something I seem to not be able to learn not to do!!!

My sensor is a part of me too. It's just on my arm - there for everyone to see! I wear my diabetes proudly!

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Melbourne!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at South Beach Reserve this March!

Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.
