I'm walking for a world without type one diabetes

Walking to Cure My Diabetes

I'm a veteran Type 1 diabetic of 20 years and counting. Over time the methods of treating diabetes has evolved and management is better than ever now with the technology we have. But we are still lacking one crucial thing - a cure for diabetes.

Each year, new complications arise for me from living with this chronic illness. Like all other Type 1 Diabetics, I'm tired of the constant monitoring, injecting and counting.

This year, instead of complaining about life, I am am joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event.

Why? Because Type 1 Diabetes is no fun to live with and no one should have to deal with it. This walk may not cure me but it'll bring us a step closer to it.

Living with Type 1 Diabetes is like trying to bounce a balloon in your non dominant hand, 24/7, whilst doing everything else life throws at you with the other. The catch is the balloon can't go above your shoulder and it can't go below your knee. It's the same for managing sugar levels - a constant battle of keeping your sugar levels within range whilst trying to live as "normally" as possible.

Type 1 Diabetes is exhausting, all consuming and doesn't give you any days off. Though it's most common to be diagnosed as a child or as a young adult, it can happen to any of us at any time, all you need is the right trigger.

Please feel free to drop whatever you can as a donation. It's greatly appreciated.
