I'm walking for Arthur Rose

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Melbourne!

February we took Arthur to the Royal Children’s after some concerning red flags. After several blood works it was confirmed he had Type 1 Diabetes.

When our boy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, our everyday normal changed immediately. What most people don’t see is the reality that follows - the flood of information from the hospital you need to get right before you can take him home, learning how to be comfortable with needles, inserting new sensors, monitoring insulin sites on the body, the sleepless nights checking blood sugars, the constant anxiety of dangerous highs and lows and being able to act fast when they happen, monitoring his food, counting carbs, balancing insulin ratios, planning ahead to prevent the lows, becoming a medical manager for your child training his school, ensuring supplies do not run out, EVER!!!….and the heartbreaking moment you realise your child can never have a day off from this autoimmune condition. But most of all advocating for him and the behavioural changes that can go side by side with T1D.

At just five years old, and in just a few weeks, he has had to learn about needles, sensors, and living with a condition that demands attention every minute of every day and decisions that even we as parents struggle to manage.

This March, we are joining One Walk, the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families, raising money to support research and awareness so that one day children like our boy won’t have to live with this relentless condition.
Every bit of support brings hope for a future where no family has to hear those life-changing words: “Your child has Type 1 diabetes.”
T1D is a life-long autoimmune condition, where the body is unable to produce its own insulin, which is what controls the blood sugar in our bodies.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

Please support my walk today.
