I'm walking for a world without type one diabetes

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Hobart!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Simmons Park this April!

Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

We are aiming to fundraise $200 (that’s $10 for each year I have had type 1 diabetes). The impact diabetes has had on my life is massive - with constant decision making, food choices and worry about what my sugar is. Diagnosed at 11 years old, I cannot remember what a world feels like without constantly doing injections and worrying about it 24/7.

Just last year our little dog was also diagnosed with diabetes, now we are matching with our glucose monitors and injections. But once again it feels like life revolves around this disease.

I often wonder and dreams of waking up and having just 24 hours without it. So here we are, raising funds and pushing for a day where our minds are a little more free and we feel a little less heavy.
