Taking Steps That Matter
I’m taking part in the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event at Bicentennial Park, Esplanade, Darwin on Sunday 17th May 2026.
8 Australians are diagnosed with T1D every day.
Type 1 diabetes is relentless. It doesn’t pause, take weekends off, or give people a break. It’s there every day, in the decisions, the planning, the constant glucose balancing act that most people never have to think about.
For those living with it, it’s not just a condition, it’s a full-time, behind-the-scenes effort to stay healthy and safe.
That’s why this walk matters.
It’s about showing support for a community that carries this every single day. It’s about recognising the strength, resilience, and effort that often goes unseen. And it’s about being part of something working toward a better future for everyone affected.
If you’re able to donate, your support will help fund vital research, improve treatments, and provide support to people living with type 1 diabetes.
Thanks for being here.
Growing Up with Type 1 Diabetes
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 8 years old.
At that age, I didn't fully understand what it meant. I thought surely this isn't forever. Things that used to be simple no longer were. Food, sport, school and even sleep, everything starts to come with a bit more thought, a bit more planning.
Over time, those things become part of everyday life.
Thankfully advancements in technology have had a huge impact on how I manage type 1 diabetes day to day.
Several years ago I started wearing a continuous glucose monitor device that reports my blood glucose level to my phone automatically. This device alone has drastically improved my ability to 'switch off'.
