Her Smile Changed Everything

At just 16 months old, my daughter should have been discovering the world—learning new words, chasing sunlight across the floor, laughing without a care in her tiny heart.

Instead, our world stopped.

What began as subtle changes—constant thirst, endless nappies, unexplained exhaustion—quickly turned into a moment that forever divided our lives into before and after. The words “Type One Diabetes” were spoken, and suddenly nothing was simple anymore.

She was still a baby.

I watched my tiny child endure finger pricks, injections, alarms, hospital stays, and a device attached to her body that she didn’t understand. She didn’t know why her mum had to hold her still while she cried. She didn’t know why her body had betrayed her so early in life.

And as a parent, nothing prepares you for the heartbreak of knowing you can’t take it away.

What hurt the most wasn’t just the medical complexity—it was watching her spark fade. The confidence she once had, the carefree joy, the way she used to proudly run around without fear… it slowly slipped away. She became aware that she was “different.” That something about her wasn’t like other children.

No child should ever feel that way.

That’s when I realised something profound: while I couldn’t cure her diabetes, I could change how she felt about living with it.

I wanted her to feel strong, proud, brave, and beautiful—not trapped by a medical device, but empowered by it. I wanted her to look at her diabetes and see resilience, not limitation.

This fundraising journey is about more than equipment or support—it’s about giving children like my daughter their smiles back. It’s about turning fear into confidence, and something clinical into something empowering. It’s about reminding every child living with Type One Diabetes that they are not broken, they are extraordinary.

Every donation, every share, every act of support helps us move closer to a world where children don’t feel ashamed of the devices that keep them alive—but instead feel proud of how strong they are for wearing them.

My daughter is still that brave little girl.
Her smile is coming back.
And with your help, we can make sure it never fades again.

Thank you for being part of our story. ?

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Perth!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Burswood Park this March!

Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

Please support my walk today.
