We're walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Newcastle!

Why I’m walking:

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October, 2025  and it took us all by surprise. It was the last thing I ever thought I’d be diagnosed with. In an instant, life changed. It hasn’t just affected me—it’s affected my husband, my children and extended family too. T1D doesn’t belong to one person; it becomes part of the whole family.

It’s the constant monitoring and interrupted sleep. It’s the exhaustion, the brain fog, the cold chills and sweats, the numbness and tingling—even when you’ve done everything right. Nearly four months in, my day-to-day life looks very different. It’s not just food that needs to be factored in—heat, hormones, and exercise all impact my levels. Until I can find a consistent pattern and stabilise my BGLs, I continue to ride the wave.

T1D can strike anyone, at any time. In Australia alone, 8 people are diagnosed every single day. A diagnosis means an extra 180 decisions a day just to stay safe and healthy. 

I’m walking to help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research—so one day, type 1 can become type NONE.
