I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Thomas H Holton Park Playground this March!

Why I’m walking

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October, and it took us all by surprise. It was the last thing I ever thought I’d be diagnosed with. In an instant, life changed. It hasn’t just affected me—it’s affected my husband and my children and extended family too. T1D doesn’t belong to one person; it becomes part of the whole family.

It’s the constant monitoring and interrupted sleep. It’s the exhaustion, the brain fog, the cold chills and sweats, and the numbness and tingling—even when you’ve done everything right. Nearly four months in, my day-to-day life looks very different. It’s not just food that needs to be factored in—heat, hormones, and exercise all impact my levels. Until I can find a consistent pattern and stabilise my BGLs, I continue to ride the wave.

T1D can strike anyone, at any time. In Australia alone, 8 people are diagnosed every single day. A diagnosis means an extra 180 decisions a day just to stay safe and healthy.
