Abbey Murphy

I'm walking for Catherine Murphy & Carl Murphy

Thank you

We have surpassed our goal of raising $1,500!!

I would just like to say a huge, HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated and shown their support. It is hard to put down into words exactly how much this means to me. Advocating on behalf of my sister and those close to me who are living with T1D has been such a rewarding experience, not only can raise these funds but raising awareness of this chronic condition.

New Walk Date !

Unfortunately, the original date the T1D walk was meant to be on got rained out. We now have a new date, 31st of May! I am really looking forward to spending the day with friends and family, raising money for T1D research.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to my page, and if you haven't yet, there is still time!

Since the walk is at the end of the month, I have raised my fundraising goal to $1,500. Although it may be ambitious, I am determined to go above and beyond!

I am doing this for my older sister, my late father, and many of my close friends.

Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes

T1D develops when the pancreas stops producing insulin. It can become serious as your blood glucose levels raise up to dangerously high levels.

A checklist of common T1D symptoms to look out for, including the ‘4Ts’:

- toilet (needing to urinate a lot)

- thirsty (feeling dehydrated)

- tired (feeling weak and fatigued)

- thinner (unexplained weight loss)

- increased hunger (because you can’t get energy from the food you are eating)

- slow healing cuts or sores

I'm walking to support my sister who lives with T1D

Type 1 Diabetes has been around in my family my whole life. With my dad being diagnosed in his teen years, and my sister in her mid-twenties.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

When my sister was diagnosed, many comments flooded her social media wishing her a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, there is yet to be a cure. With helpful donations and raising awareness, modern medicine and technology can work towards making this a reality.

Please support my walk today, even if it is $5.00 (what you would spend on a coffee), a little can go a long way.
