Life of numbers

It was 2003,  I was 7 years old, in primary school - grade 1. Making and playing with friends was everything and then it all changed and very quickly. Within weeks, I wasn’t the Chloe everybody knew. I was unwell.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes - June 18th 2003.
Everything was now about numbers.
Sugar levels, ketones levels, carbohydrate numbers, insulin units and so on. It felt never ending. I was never any good at maths so to me it felt a little harder. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t eat this or that, or why I had to inject or why I had to count carbs or why I felt very sick.
Fast forward a little to 2026 - oh how it’s all changed. I’ve learnt a lot since my diagnosis. It’s still a numbers game and now I’m a lot better at maths so it feels like a walk in the park however that’s such an easier said expression but it still has some merit.
I still look at sugar levels, ketones levels, carbohydrate counts and much more although it’s a simplified now. I learnt to understand it and control it. I don’t let it control me. I changed my mindset about living with T1D and now it’s all about helping others, not just those who live with T1D but also the friends and family who live with us living with T1D.
Here’s to creating a brighter and blue-er future ?

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Melbourne!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at South Beach Reserve this March!

Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

Please support my walk today.
