I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Perth!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Burswood Park this March!

Our family is raising funds to support life-changing research and resources for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) — an autoimmune condition that can strike anyone, at any age, without warning.

For us, this fight is personal.
Our son Walker was diagnosed at just 10 months old. He is now three — bright, brave, endlessly energetic — yet every day of his life has included blood sugar checks, insulin doses, and the constant balancing act that T1D demands.

Type 1 Diabetes is not caused by diet or lifestyle. It happens when the immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leaving the body unable to process glucose. There is no cure, and managing it is a 24/7 responsibility.

For Walker, this means:

• Multiple finger-pricks or sensor readings every single day

• Insulin delivered through injections or a pump, because his body cannot make any

• Sudden highs and lows that can be dangerous if not treated immediately

• A condition he will never “grow out of”

For parents and carers, it means:

• Sleeping lightly every night in fear of low blood sugar

• Constant monitoring, planning, counting carbs, and adjusting doses

• Carrying medical supplies everywhere

• The emotional toll of watching your child face something so demanding

Despite all of this, Walker never stops smiling. He dances, he plays, he laughs, and he teaches us every day what true resilience looks like.

We are fundraising to support better treatments, advanced technology, and ultimately a cure — not just for Walker, but for every child and adult living with Type 1 Diabetes.
