Understanding The Basics Of Type One Diabetes
Type One Diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the cells that produce insulin, a hormone everyone needs to stay alive. It isn’t caused by eating too much sugar or not exercising. It’s a medical condition that can happen to anyone, at any age.
For people living with Type One, every day is a balancing act. Blood sugar levels must be checked constantly. Insulin has to be calculated, injected, or pumped for every meal, snack, activity, stress level, illness, or even a change in weather. There’s no break, no cure, and no “day off”, just continuous management to stay safe and healthy.
You can support someone with Type One by learning the basics, challenging common myths, and being patient when they need to stop and check their levels or treat a low. Small acts of understanding go a long way. Ask how you can help, listen without judgement, and remember that even when someone looks fine on the outside, they may be fighting a silent, exhausting battle every single day
Welcome to my page :)
I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Melbourne!
I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at South Beach Reserve this March! Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.
T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.
Please support my walk today.
