Im walking for hope 🩵

As many of our family and friends know, Dylan was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Since that day, our lives have changed in ways we never could have imagined. It’s been a whirlwind — overwhelming, exhausting, and eye-opening.

One of the hardest parts has been realising how often diabetes isn’t taken as seriously as it should be. Dylan is now completely dependent on insulin. It goes everywhere with him. Every single day requires planning — not just food, but the weather, how long we’ll be out, what activities are involved. You don’t just get up and go anymore. You leave the house with a bag full of medication and supplies, and the constant mental checklist never stops.

There’s also the judgement and unsolicited opinions. The cost of “safe” food. A simple snack bar can be $4. Dylan has to eat even when he doesn’t feel like it, on a strict schedule, within a narrow window after injections.

Unfortunately, because we caught it late, Dylan already lives with many of the complications of diabetes — nerve damage, eye issues, osteopenia. And the hardest truth of all is that type 1 diabetes does not get better. There is currently no cure.

So I am walking in hope.

Hope that one day Dylan can live without constant fear of blood sugar highs and lows. That he can run around with the girls, swim without freezing in 40° heat because his sugars are low, stay out longer without worrying if he packed enough insulin. That he can enjoy life — a meal, a drink with friends, a spontaneous moment — without diabetes always leading the way.

I’m also walking for families like ours, and for every person living with this relentless disease. For the parents, partners, children, and loved ones who are learning, adapting, worrying, and advocating every single day. For those who are newly diagnosed, those living with complications, and those silently fighting battles most people never see.

I’m walking for my girls too. They have been incredibly brave through all of this. They already understand so much about diabetes and what it means to support someone you love.

I love my little family. I know one day we’ll look back and say, “We got through it.” But right now, we’re sitting in our feelings — learning, adapting, and doing everything we can to build a safe, long, and happy life together.

Thank you for walking alongside us.

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Adelaide!

I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Wigley Reserve this March!

Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.

T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

Please support my walk today.

Dear Kayla, Dylan, Hayley, and Aubrey, Diabetes is a horrible condition and I'm so sorry that you are all going through this journey in your own ways. You are am amazing little family who don't deserve this, but I know that the love you have for each other keeps you all going every day. I do hope that a cure is found one day soon, and although my donation is small, I hope it helps those who are living with the condition amd their family as well. I'm always here if you need anything. You are an amazing woman.
