The struggle and support
Hi, my name is Madelyn and I have Type 1 Diabetes. I was first diagnosed 3 years ago right before my 17th birthday. It has been a huge struggle and adjustment to this diagnosis as I am the first in my family to have this, no one’s shoulder to lean on and relate to. Just the support of my loving family was enough but they didn’t know what it truly felt to struggle with needle pokes and finger pokes, the lows and the highs. Kid that support has helped me get my hesd around it all. I have gone through a lot in the few years I have had T1D. I have gone through big adjustments, hospital visits, struggling to accept this diagnosis, trying to maintain the correct BGL, struggling at first and getting cataracts in both eyes and going blind from the struggle of maintaining those sugars, having surgery to restore my site… it’s been a lot and I wish no one else should have to have that much going on in their lives from T1D.
Any donations could help hundreds, thousands of people suffering with Diabetes. Let’s put a stop to Type 1 Diabetes!! Let’s find a cure!
Any support means so much to everyone with T1D and family members to loves ones also suffering.
Thank you, Madelyn :)
I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Gold Coast!
I'm joining the world's largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) fundraising event for families at Pratten Park this March! Why? To help raise $1.1 million for life-changing T1D research, and ultimately turn type 1 into type NONE.
T1D can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed with it every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break, and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.
Please support my walk today.
