I'm walking for Sarah Peat

I'm walking for a world without type 1 diabetes in Penrith!

This March, I’m taking part in the world’s largest type 1 diabetes fundraising walk at Tench Reserve — and this one is deeply personal.

Our daughter Sarah lives with type 1 diabetes. She didn’t choose it, and nothing caused it. One day she was a happy, healthy kid — the next, we were thrown into a world of finger pricks, carb counting, insulin dosing, overnight alarms and constant calculations just to keep her safe.

Type 1 diabetes doesn’t take a break. It’s 24/7. Every meal, every sport session, every sleepover, every school day comes with extra planning and risk. It means making around 180 extra health decisions every single day. And like 8 Australians diagnosed daily, Sarah faces this for life — unless we find better treatments and ultimately a cure.

That’s why we’re walking.

We’re raising funds for Breakthrough T1D, the leading organisation driving research to turn type 1 into type NONE. They are funding groundbreaking work in areas like:

  • Beta cell replacement therapies (replacing the insulin-producing cells the immune system destroys)
  • Immune therapies aimed at stopping the autoimmune attack
  • Advanced technologies to improve automated insulin delivery
  • Research focused on prevention and ultimately curing T1D

Real progress is happening. Potential cures are being actively pursued. But research needs funding to move faster.

If you’re able to, please support my walk.

You’re not just donating — you’re backing a future where kids like Sarah don’t have to live with this relentless condition.

Thank you for being part of her story 💙
